Google Meet has seen significant changes this year since the COVID-19 outbreak. Here’s a recap of the changes already rolled out, new features coming soon, and the different features that available only for G Suite for Education Enterprise customers.

With all the changes that have come to Google Meet this year (it wasn’t that long ago that NO ONE was using this tool), I thought it best to share what’s happening with Meet.

On October 1, 2020, some of the features all G Suite for Education customers have been getting since April are moving to the Enterprise edition only. However, there are still a number of tools available to all, with some more on the way.

Here’s what’s coming, what’s going, and what’s changing with Meet in October:

If you have G Suite for Education you will lose access to the following G Suite Enterprise for Education features:

  • You will go from being able to have a maximum of 250 particpants in a Meet to a maximum of 100
  • You will no longer be able to create a Google Meet Livestream

Later in the year, you will lose Premium Recordings, which will be replaced with a Temporary Recordings feature. Until Temporary Recordings is ready, you will keep the Premium Recordings feature. Temporary Recordings will be like Premium Recordings except:

  • You won’t be able to download your recording from Drive.
  • You recording will automatically delete after 30 days.
  • You won’t be able to share recordings with Google users outside of your G Suite tenancy.

G Suite Enterprise to Education users will have access to the following new features when they’re relased:

  • Q&A
  • Polling
  • Breakout Rooms
  • Attendance Tracking

Everyone with G Suite for Education or G Suite Enterprise for Education gets the following features. Some are available now, some are still to be released:

There are no time limits being introduced in Google Meet for any G Suite users. The 1-hour time limit only applies to Google Meet for Consumer Google accounts.
